What is up, Mind Buzz Universe? Welcome back to another podcast episode of The Mind Buzz. I am Gil, your host, wearing the slightly worn Bergenstocks this evening. And working the board today, tonight, whenever you're listening to this podcast, is a lovely Amber. How are you?
SPEAKER_14I'm good, thank you.
SPEAKER_02What's up? What's going on? Nothing.
SPEAKER_14Nothing.
SPEAKER_02What's happening today? This week.
SPEAKER_14Nothing much.
SPEAKER_02Huh?
SPEAKER_14Nothing much.
SPEAKER_02Can you do that?
SPEAKER_14Laid it all out.
SPEAKER_02Lay it all out now. Lay it all out right now.
SPEAKER_14Nothing.
SPEAKER_02We might not have a chance.
SPEAKER_14Why? What's gonna happen to me?
SPEAKER_02I don't know.
SPEAKER_14Don't be fucking saying not knock on wood. Why do people are you are you planning on doing something? If I go missing, you know who did it.
SPEAKER_02Why why do people knock on their head when they say, oh, knock on wood, but then there's no wood around, and then they knock on their head?
SPEAKER_14Like I don't know. I d no honestly, I don't know. I just know they do that.
SPEAKER_15You do that.
SPEAKER_14I know. Why didn't you say me? Why'd you say people?
SPEAKER_02Because it first starts off. You've seen me do it? I thought you didn't see me. It starts off the first the conversation is like, oh, people do this. And then I ease my way into saying that it's me. That it's you, and then it's a big problem that we're gonna we need therapy.
SPEAKER_14I don't know. I don't know. I think it's like some OCD shit where I'm just like knocking on wood all day, like just in case.
SPEAKER_12I swear, it's like any little thing.
SPEAKER_14I don't know what it stems from, but it is like four times. My dad does it too? Yeah. You notice that? Yeah, a lot. Does he do it on his head too?
SPEAKER_15Yes. I was just like, what's going on here? This is not normal.
SPEAKER_12I think you know my dad more than I know my dad now.
SPEAKER_02Oh god.
SPEAKER_12That's funny.
SPEAKER_02Star Wars is going great, ladies and gentlemen. Uh the original trilogy was awesome. Um we're on uh we just finished episode one last night, and let me tell you, the pod race was probab was it's like the best thing in cinema. 1999 pod race from that little kid is is pure genius.
SPEAKER_14Now imagine seeing it in the theater for the first time.
SPEAKER_02I know honestly, that was the whole reason why I hooked up the sp the big speakers to the TV in the studio because of that. I just wanted to see that.
SPEAKER_14Like that movie was like the biggest comeback of them all. And remember we were looking up like uh McDonald's, uh Burger King had like a super huge drop, pizza. The movie came out, we're just looking at oh look at all the food that's no, but it wasn't the food because I remember wanting like all the collectible stuff.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's true.
SPEAKER_14What the heck?
SPEAKER_02I don't know. Anyways. I feel like I wasn't around in that era. That's weird, huh? That's sad.
SPEAKER_14No, it's sad. You were around, you just they don't want to disclose your personal.
SPEAKER_13It's okay.
SPEAKER_02Let's get into today's podcast. I'm very excited uh to have these two gentlemen in the studio at the same time. Uh, please give it up for Alex Durazzo and Greg Sanchez. Ladies and gentlemen, finally in here. What's up, guys?
SPEAKER_06What up, dude? What's going on? Dude, the Cheez-Its. Well, if I have Cheez-Its now, they still remind me of episode three. Yeah. Because there's like a Darth Vader branding on it for the Star Wars had like the best tie-ins, bro.
SPEAKER_03Like everything. Like I remember episode one had like the Pepsi Cans, like Young Anakin Skywalker on there.
SPEAKER_14And you wanted to get like all of them, and they had uh Darth Maul on there.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I won um, I still remember seeing episode three in uh theaters. Sick ass. Dude, I I won uh a spelling bee in like the third grade or something. I got two tickets to the movies, and I took my dad and he slept through the whole thing.
SPEAKER_04That's such a sweet memory.
SPEAKER_06Like you what a wasted ticket. Take my dad to see episode one.
SPEAKER_14But you know what? But the older I get, the more I understand parents falling asleep in the theater.
SPEAKER_06Definitely. Yeah.
SPEAKER_14Because now it's like, damn.
SPEAKER_06I'm trying to provide for my family. Stupid movement.
SPEAKER_14Imagine, and then um recliner seats didn't exist back then now.
SPEAKER_16Oh dude. You have to be really tired back then.
SPEAKER_03Honestly, I fall asleep at the theater like every time, but that's because I put two shots of whiskey in my Coke slushy. Honestly, yeah.
SPEAKER_04You have a problem slushie.
SPEAKER_03Oh, you never done. Okay, so like you go to like a matinee. That's not helping, probably. You go to like a matinee at the time. No. Try it. Before you guys are. Have you ever been at the theater at nine o'clock in the morning? Not nine o'clock. I'm talking maybe like noon-ish, noon to one. Okay. You know, pick a matinee. There's no one in the theater, bro. You keep you like two little like shots of whiskey in your pocket. You get like a large coke cherry slushie, pour two shots of whiskey in that dude, and you're chilling. Oh yeah. I watched Baby Driver like that like five times. I was going through a breakup. It was I was going to a breakup.
SPEAKER_06I was drinking cherry coke whiskey slushies and watching Baby Driver every day. Dude, the last time I tried to sneak uh something into the theaters, it was with Diego, our friend that plays in the band for us. We were in like uh, I was probably a junior in high school. Yeah. And we went right after cross-country practice. He had his bag and he filled it with like hot Cheetos and chips. And that guy goes, she was like, uh, uh, can you open your bag? And Diego's like, ah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04And his face like lit up.
SPEAKER_06He's like, you gotta throw those away. But it was like the bags were so bright that you start reflecting on the case.
SPEAKER_04He started glowing.
SPEAKER_02That scene in Pulp Fiction when he opens up the briefcase.
SPEAKER_03It just shines. Uh Greg, I know you have like a lot of history with like the like the OG Spider-Man movies. Like, where do you fall on like original trilogy Star Wars? Um like the one, two, three.
SPEAKER_06Oh, I love those. Yeah, they're fire. Episode three is my favorite. That would say I grew my hair out because I like Anakin so. Do you ever do the Jedi braid? You ever like rock the drive?
SPEAKER_03I think it's coming, bro. I'm looking back there. The rat tail?
SPEAKER_02It's coming back, dude.
SPEAKER_03It's coming back. You might be right. There's the origin, dude. It's gonna happen.
SPEAKER_14See, the rat tail was like like a Mexican Latino thing. You guys remember the kids with rat tails? Oh, yeah. I feel like they were always like the bad kids.
SPEAKER_06There was always the bad kids like Chris. God damn it. I had one.
SPEAKER_16Or do you remember the little? Oh, I had to.
SPEAKER_02Because I had a I had a giant mohawk. I had a giant mohawk. With the rat tail? With the rat tail. Well, you're a crazy age. Like third, no, third, like 14, 15, maybe.
SPEAKER_14Oh, so you knew what you were doing.
SPEAKER_02You were like you were an adult.
SPEAKER_14I mean like the kids at the mom would like for it.
SPEAKER_15Yeah, no.
SPEAKER_03You strike me as a man who's had a pompadour in his life. Oh yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. You did the pompadour. Did you guys fall in love when he had the pompadour?
SPEAKER_02The two foot pompadour.
SPEAKER_04Damn, you had two foot.
SPEAKER_02You had some real pompadour shit. Yeah, the high, the high hair and everything.
SPEAKER_14And then he did the stripe with the color.
SPEAKER_02Uh huh. Oh, hell yeah. At all of it. At all of it.
SPEAKER_06What year did you graduate high school?
SPEAKER_03Oh, nine? Oh, okay. You're a little bit older than us. I mean, yeah. Well, Greg's a young, I think you're the young buck. Um, 13. Yeah, 13, I graduated in 2011. 2001. Oh, okay. Yeah.
SPEAKER_14I'm the oldest. 2008.
SPEAKER_03Nice.
SPEAKER_14I'm like, ah. I thought you guys were gonna be like 2008, 2009.
SPEAKER_03Nah, I mean, yeah, I mean, it's all the same shit, right? Are you guys 30 yet? Yeah, I'm 30. Greg just turned 30. I'm 32.
SPEAKER_06No, I turned 31 this year. Did you really? Well, I turned 31 in October.
SPEAKER_03Oh, you turned 31 this year?
SPEAKER_06Oh, I turned 33.
SPEAKER_03Life is going so fast. I'm so old, bro.
SPEAKER_14It goes by really fast.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it does.
SPEAKER_14Once I turned, I turned by the phone. Hold on to your seats. I turned 30 in the pandemic, and after that, I was like, whoa, I'll be 36 this year. And I'm like, what the hell? Yeah.
SPEAKER_06That pandemic just froze time for a little bit.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it did. It was yeah. Then like when once it unfroze, though, it was crazy. Like, what year is it? Full beard. Six years have gone by.
SPEAKER_02Six rat tails later.
SPEAKER_14Do you guys remember too that hairstyle that was the bald head and then with the little the little bang?
SPEAKER_06Oh yeah, yeah. I got that one by accident, motherfucker. I told the barber I I like uh I like a little kid. Like I was like, uh, I usually just style it by putting it up in the front a little bit. So like short on the everywhere else but the front. He was like, alright.
SPEAKER_05He just gave you one little thing.
SPEAKER_03Bro, there was a character in like uh there's a character in anime that had his hair like that. It was like bald with like a little puff in his hair. Like my mom like saw me like watching it. I think she did this on purpose to like teach me a lesson that anime is not cool, because she was like, You want to cut your hair like the monk in the anime? And I was like, Yeah, yeah, like I want to do my hair like that. And dude, I got roasted so bad at school. Like, I got clowned on so hard, I was like, maybe I shouldn't be watching anime. Maybe this is bad.
SPEAKER_02Oh that was the best. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, like that kid.
SPEAKER_02Is it coming back? No. Or no?
SPEAKER_03It should bring it back. If I started balding in the bag, I'd rock that.
SPEAKER_14What what are you what what are you guys gonna do? I'm on knock on win, huh? When you do start, like, or if you do bald, like what are you guys are you guys just gonna shave it all off or are you gonna keep whatever hair?
SPEAKER_06I have my grandpa's hairline, I feel like Don Gabriel, that tall guy that's gonna be. Oh yeah, that fool that fool's got some sick ass hair. Um he kind of just recedes on the sides here. And uh he comes back. I think it looks pretty cool. Yeah, like I like I feel like a man looks distinguished with a little bit.
SPEAKER_03Just a little bit. I I you know what? I've uh I've buzzed my head a couple of times and like I got a good shaped head. Like if it really started like going back, I would I would just rock the shaved, like shaved head.
SPEAKER_06I wouldn't nah, I wouldn't be able to. I do love having hair though.
SPEAKER_03Like I'm looking at Greg's flow right now and just missing my hair because I do love having like my hair long. Like I think like if I grow it out one more time, like this is like the last rodeo.
SPEAKER_02I that's that's where I'm at right now. That's where I'm why I'm growing out my hair because I haven't I don't know when I'm gonna start balding.
SPEAKER_03Well, the thing is it's like This is my last hurrah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because like this is my episode nine right now. Growing out my hair.
SPEAKER_03Are you guys gonna do new trilogy? Yeah. Um, but with the going back to the hair thing, like my hair does grow slower. Like my hair used to grow so fast. Oh, I used to be able to like buzz my head and have like a flow in like six months. Like it takes forever. Like, I think like the last time I buzzed my hair was like in like January, and like it's this is how long it is. And like for me, this is like crazy. Like, I was like, how is why is it taking so long? So I'm already kind of noticing it's slow down. Vitamins, dude. Really? What kind of thing?
SPEAKER_06Honestly, yeah, you take you start taking vitamins, you have to stop because it's like it gets so annoying. Your nails start growing up. Dude, nails. What are you guys for? Well, I don't do L. What are you taking?
SPEAKER_02Uh vitamin D and vitamin C. Okay, vitamin D and a multivitamin. And a multivitamin.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, but then you start peeing like a green color.
SPEAKER_02Well, that does look ribble flabbing. I I was taking these uh animal packs when I was like working out a lot. It's like a rhino? No, they were there were there were like just a shitload of uh vitamins. Okay. But you take these packs every day, and I started peeing like a weird color and I looked it up, and it's uh it's uh high amounts of uh ribo flabben. Because you're just peeing it out, right? It's too much, your body can't process it. Right.
SPEAKER_14Yeah, because you can you can actually like obviously you're not OD. You really you really can over like uh give yourself vitamins.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I just imagine the corners obviously like damn it took that animal pack. I told him not to. Yeah.
SPEAKER_14But they sell like men's like uh for hair and nails, and it'll be just like one vitamin that you take. Yeah, they they label them like Maybe I should try it.
SPEAKER_03Maybe I should try to get try to get the flow going. Yeah. One more time.
SPEAKER_02One more time. Do it before it's too late. Your beard's gonna come in thicker, your hair is like a few.
SPEAKER_06I don't believe in I don't I don't believe in vitamins. I don't believe in goals. You're gonna watch, you're gonna start taking them. Yeah. You're gonna notice. I'm a little bit like I can't grow facial hair, dude. You really well I kinda, but not really.
SPEAKER_04You're like one of those fools who can just grow a goatee.
SPEAKER_06You probably grow a sick ass goatee, not really, to be honest. If I'm being honest. Does that come out wiry too?
SPEAKER_03Kinda. Yeah. It just like takes time to shape too. Like I thought I couldn't do a mustache, but then like when I started like actually shaving it and shaping it, I came out sick.
SPEAKER_15Alright.
SPEAKER_06Can you grow facial hair?
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_14No, he can't.
SPEAKER_02I tried. I tried during the pandemic. I tried a lot of things during the pandemic. And facial hair was was was one.
SPEAKER_14He doesn't even have body hair.
SPEAKER_03I just imagine if you like a bunch of stuff. I tried facial hair, anal.
SPEAKER_14I probably have more body hair than him. You probably do. Yeah, I know I do. And facial hair. And facial hair. I tried to. I was kidding. I said I ain't embarrassed.
SPEAKER_02Knock on wood. I tried uh I even tried like uh uh hormones to to grow up my facial hair. Did you testosterone? Yeah. Did you start raiding, like raging? No, it it was it was specifically for beards, like it was get the fuck out of you. Yeah, they sent so they sent out like oils, they sent out like a brush. I was like, it's it's not long enough for a brush.
SPEAKER_06I still have the supposed to work, apparently. Like really on your face? Yeah, what is it? Rogaine. Oh, that'd be crazy. I love getting my dad started doing that because he's got a full-on beard now. But I haven't done it. That's a well boy. But uh yeah, one of my coworkers decided that, oh yeah, one of my friends, he started doing rogue and he grew out his beard, but he put it too high, so now it's like like, oh my god.
SPEAKER_03Oh my dear life, bro. I'm gonna start putting that on my bush and put rogue down there.
SPEAKER_14You know, you know what else you can do? Um, now that I'm thinking about it. So, you know how people do, well, people, I'm gonna give no people.
SPEAKER_07It's me. It's me.
SPEAKER_14I'm people. Um, no, because I do like laser hair removal. Uh-huh. And then when when I started going, they would say, like, hey, make sure that you know, like where you're getting it removed, it's like like hair, you know. So there's certain areas that if you don't need the laser hair removal, it'll stimulate more hair growth. So you're not supposed to like pretty much do it in all places. So I did hear that there's people that do the laser hair removal to stimulate more hair growth.
SPEAKER_03That's crazy. Okay.
SPEAKER_14So that's what your dad's there you go.
SPEAKER_06Your dad was messing around so I'm like, I'm okay with that of facial hair.
SPEAKER_02I was on my uh my beach boys.
SPEAKER_06Oh, dad's like a like a Monchichi, bro.
SPEAKER_05Bro, let's go. Show the camera.
SPEAKER_13I show the camera.
SPEAKER_06Where's the camera? Yeah.
SPEAKER_13Right there.
SPEAKER_03There you go. Damn, that's sick. I was trying to beach boy air. Yeah, beach boy airfriend.
SPEAKER_14Yeah, and then like a month later he showed up and he was bald.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Do you have like a you have like a Britney moment? You just like buzz that?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I don't know why. I think because I started doing the podcast and I was like, oh, this the headphones with the hair looks kind of weird. So I shaved my head.
SPEAKER_14I was in my my Rogan and he didn't tell me, and then he came to pick me up for a date. And I was so mad. I was mad the entire time.
SPEAKER_06Oh really? Yeah. Yeah, I see those videos of like couples, like the the guy will show up with no hair and the girls always piss. Yeah, the girl's always mad. He's like shave his beard.
SPEAKER_14Yeah. I was like, your head looks like a penis.
SPEAKER_13I didn't mean to, but I was really mad.
SPEAKER_02I would have been bummed. Yeah.
SPEAKER_14But he didn't care. He left it for like two years.
SPEAKER_02Do you like it now, or is it is it too too much?
SPEAKER_14Me?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_14Oh, yeah, I like it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah. Yeah? You like it? Alright. I'm gonna keep it.
SPEAKER_14Okay. But I as long as I can still call you George Washington.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_14It's because he gets these little curls in the back and then they curl like George Washington.
SPEAKER_02My hair was never curly. It was never curly. It was always straight. It's weird. Greg, you've done a mullet before.
SPEAKER_06I had an afro as a baby. Did you really? Yeah. Like big curly hair, and then my mom cut it, and then it keeps it all straight. Uh-huh. Yeah, that's it. That's crazy.
SPEAKER_03You could have had crazy curls.
SPEAKER_02What's the craziest thing you've had, Alex?
SPEAKER_03Uh shoot. I mean, I wanted to, I wanted to be a punker in like middle school. I did like the Liberty Spikes. I tried that for a little bit. Uh I rocked a mohawk. Um I think the most embarrassing haircut I had was like circa like, you know, like early 2010s when like all the dudes had the long hair and the undercut, like lesbian haircut. Like I had like the yoke. Yeah, dude. I was rocking that for a minute. And I think it's cool because it was all like it was like Mexicans and lesbians with that haircut, and like wait, it was like with the one side shave?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, well, yeah.
SPEAKER_03It's like 2012. Yeah, so yeah, it was like, yeah, more like 2012. With the blowout going up. So like it was long on top, so it was all long on top, and then it's zero all around with a hard part on the side. Oh, okay, okay. It was like Mexicans and lesbians, and then lesbians won. Yeah. Like they get that's their haircut. That's it's theirs now. It's theirs. I can't do it. I get pressed. Yeah, you can.
SPEAKER_06No, I get I've done a buzz cut, but my head is shaped weird. I have like a cleanet head. I've only known you with long hair.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's true. I've only seen you go shortish once, and like it was like still pretty, like kind of long on top. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I heard you can tell by a person's uh head uh if they came out vaginally or if they came out uh C-section. C-section.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, like slipping slip.
SPEAKER_14Sweet. There's also people that needed like there's people that if the they needed to use the vacuum to get them out. Oh, it was a vacuum. They have more of like a cone head.
SPEAKER_05They got like the hell yeah.
SPEAKER_14Well, because when babies come out, their head is like jelly.
SPEAKER_02It's like malleable.
SPEAKER_14It's not until it hits like the skull, right?
SPEAKER_02Their skull is like it's not developed yet. It's not bone yet, yeah. Or my skull isn't developed.
SPEAKER_13Maybe yours.
SPEAKER_02I'm like everybody's my brain wasn't developed yet.
SPEAKER_14Well, it doesn't there, there's like a top layer that hasn't like fully closed. That's where people say like la molera.
SPEAKER_06What's that?
SPEAKER_14I don't know how to say it in English. I don't think there's a word for it in English, huh?
SPEAKER_06I don't know what moyera is.
SPEAKER_14You don't know what moyera is? Nobody?
SPEAKER_06No.
SPEAKER_14No? You speak Spanish? I out Mexican everybody? Yeah. The moyeras have part on the top of the baby where you're gonna be able to do it. Oh, the soft spot say don't touch it.
SPEAKER_06Oh, yeah, yeah. And sometimes you see it like that. I don't think I've been around enough infants like that.
SPEAKER_04You don't be kicking it with babies?
SPEAKER_06Well, I have my youngest sister, I'm 20 years older than her. That's so crazy. Yeah, yeah. So I that's the closest I've been to like a baby. Yeah. So she's 10 right now. She's 11. She's so tall.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, she's 11.
SPEAKER_09Something like that.
SPEAKER_03I would have not guessed like 11. Your whole family is just so tall. Yeah, we're tall. We're a tall bunch.
SPEAKER_13How tall are you?
SPEAKER_06I tell people 6'5. I'm not entirely sure.
SPEAKER_13Where's that estimate from? You think it's higher or lower?
SPEAKER_06It might be higher. Okay. I think it may be 6'6. I don't know. He's a big boy. Well, I got measured in like um sophomore year of college, and I feel like I'm taller than that. And they told me 6'4. Yeah. Oh yeah. Did you play basketball? I don't know why I asked that. I don't know why I asked that.
SPEAKER_04Just immediately took a bag.
SPEAKER_06Basketball. Skin and bones. Yeah. Did you play sports? Tracking cross country. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. I was trying to give up this full stride, dude. He's just like f like a gazelle. Not really. I think I'm too tall for that. Really? Yeah, you gotta be kind of light and small. Oh, I get what you're saying. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03But you have too much muscle, dude.
SPEAKER_06Now yeah.
SPEAKER_03I'm too heavy, bro. But I still run. That's sleeper build.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_03Gil and we were talking about running last time. We were talking about how much we enjoy running and stuff like that. Like you're probably like better than us, though.
SPEAKER_02Paramount's uh 5K is coming up next month. Oh, that's cool. Sign up for it. I gotta sign up for it.
SPEAKER_03That'd be fun. Uh I did an internship at Paramount Studios. Um, Paramount City. Oh, Paramount City. Oh, you're talking about Paramount Studios. Like, that'd be that would be a cool place for a 5K, just wrote run through Paramount Studios.
SPEAKER_14They probably do do something like that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I'm sure they have to. There's 5Ks for everything now. They're not like filming anything there anymore. They might as well do a 5K. Are they? Wait, they're not.
SPEAKER_14I think the Boston Marathon too marathon is going on too. Oh, yeah, that's right now, right? My cousin did it. Oh, that's cool. Shout out.
SPEAKER_03Was that today? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. You just posted about that. That's fire. Yeah.
SPEAKER_14That's cool.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, he was averaging like a 9 30. It was like, damn, it's crazy. Yeah, he's quick. Like the speedy guy.
SPEAKER_14Did you guys see the video recently of um they were doing like uh like a marathon two, and the guy, one of the guys that was winning, he started like you know, celebrating and he kind of like stopped. Like, I mean it happens all the time. I've seen I feel like I've seen videos often. Um, and then this guy comes right behind him and he beat him. Oh yeah, and he was right at the finish line, but he was celebrating.
SPEAKER_03I want to say this. I somehow don't have respect for either of those guys. Why? I don't know, they both pissed me off. The celebrating guy, then the guy who's right there. Celebrating guy. Somehow both those guys make me mad.
SPEAKER_14I have an aunt that is turning, or she just turned 91, I think. And she's done 35, no, 40 marathons. Oh my god. As an older lady, not in like her young age.
SPEAKER_06Older meaning 55.
SPEAKER_14Like when she she actually probably started like 55, all the way up to like maybe I think the last one she did. She was probably like like I think getting towards like 80.
SPEAKER_06Damn. Wow. Is she pretty independent now?
SPEAKER_14No, she got dementia. So now she, yeah, she's she has to be cared for.
SPEAKER_06My grandpa is 98. Whoa. Yeah, that man is yeah. Everyone in my family loves him so much.
SPEAKER_05That feels sick.
SPEAKER_14My great grandma just turned 100 last week.
SPEAKER_06Oh, nice.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay. Is he still around like doing chores and stuff?
SPEAKER_06No, at this point, I I think at this point he's yeah, he's like stuck in bed. Yeah. So when we visit, they go to his room. Oh, okay. But his mind is still, I feel like it's kind of it's there for Sharp. I want to say not sharp, but for a 98-year-old. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I wonder what goes it through like somebody like somebody's mind. Yeah, what does it feel like being that old? Yeah. Yeah. Right? Seeing so much stuff, experiencing so much in the world.
SPEAKER_03I don't know. Like, I I tried to spend more time with my grandma during like her last like couple of months, and like I don't know. Like it just like she's just like still like the same lady. Like she liked to like joke around, she liked to pray, she liked to like watch the Dodgers. Like that never changed, you know what I mean? She like up until like you know the very last days, you know, we're watching Dodger games together and joking around and like you know. Yeah, it's like I don't know what goes through that.
SPEAKER_06It's probably scary. I know. I sometimes I wonder too, like, am I gonna be if I knock on wood if I get that old, am I gonna be scared of being or am I gonna accept it at that point? Yeah.
SPEAKER_14I feel like at that point you kind of accept it.
SPEAKER_06I think so too.
SPEAKER_16Because you're just kind of like, all right, like what's the works like nope, I'm not 98. Nope.
SPEAKER_02Not gonna happen, not me.
SPEAKER_03I mean, I joke around about it on stage about how like my grandma would legit like talk to us about like how long it was taking her to die, and she would. Like she was legit kind of like, you know, she's like she would just tell us, like, you know, like I'm ready, you know. She did she like she found a lot of peace like in their last like you know, like two, three years. Like her whole time, she was kind of like just prepared. Like she was never like scared, you know what I mean? She went she went into it with like a lot of grace, like you know, it was really beautiful, like it was just kind of like you know, she's like any day now, it could happen like any day, and then one day it just kind of did, you know.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, my grandpa has uh tequila bottles ready for all of us. Does he really? And he checks he like he's like, let me like show them to me, like he wants to make sure that they're all still there.
SPEAKER_05That's cool, yeah. So funny.
SPEAKER_02I think at a certain point you are you just accept you accept it, right? I I think just in general with with anything like that, right? You you once you accept the fact that it's almost the time is there, then I I think it just it it helps a little bit just to accept it.
SPEAKER_03Are you guys like afraid of death? Like do you think about it a lot? You think about like your mortality?
SPEAKER_14I do, yeah, I do. I used to I used to not like when I was like in my twenties, and I used to I used to literally say, like, ah well if I die tomorrow, I die tomorrow, like fuck it, you know? And now it's like this constant thing that I'm thinking about all the time. It's just like all the time as like daily, like almost daily, yeah. That I think about it. And it's it's just like odd. Like why I I don't know why all of a sudden I started thinking about it, and then I get into that whole like, oh my god, what if I'm gonna die again? That's why I'm thinking about it, and then I'm like knocking on wood all fucking day. Maybe that's where it's kind of like I don't know.
SPEAKER_06I don't I don't think I'm I'm I mean people change, but I'm I don't feel like uh my brain like I don't focus on death like that.
SPEAKER_02You don't really think about it like that in like you, Gil? Uh it it depends. It depends, honestly. But as of as of lately, I haven't thought about it because I lost my I lost my parents like pretty young. I lost my parents pretty young and my sister pretty young. And I think at the be like the the first couple of years after each of them like passed away, I thought about it like almost like every day. Now that I don't have so much worry for them or for my immediate family, I there's like some weird in some weird way the stress is kind of like off of me. Because I don't have to think about them and taking care of their their arrangements and just taking care of them in general. There's some stress is off of me that I I'm able to to live uh just a little bit better. But yeah, I when it comes to like my own mortality, I don't know, man. It's just it's it just depends, but I I do I do think about it like often.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, like uh I feel like my childhood I would think about death a lot. Really? Because I I was surrounded by a lot of death. Well, as far as it felt like to me, it was like just people close to me that pass. Um but now not so much. Um Yeah, I feel like the the thing that maybe the fear I have more is people close to me.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but not my own death.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_14Yeah, that's that's one of my biggest things. So let me rephrase, let me go back. I'm not like a hundred percent all the time thinking about it uh um for myself. And I think maybe going back on what we were saying, like how I don't really I didn't grow up with religion and I didn't like I don't practice it now. That the older I get, I'm like, oh like what happens? And I think that's that's what kind of gets me is the what's gonna happen, right? I think that's what's kind of scary is the unknown of like, do I just die and I die, or do I die and then I know I'm dead? Like those are the things that kind of go through my head. But recently it's more um thinking about my parents.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_14And then since I don't live with them anymore, it's kind of that thing of like I should spend as much time as I can with them because I don't know. And my parents aren't I mean, they're not even 60 yet, but still it's like like uh and that's where it gets me is like that, like the people around you that you know that anybody can go. And that's what I was thinking about yesterday when I was just like we were driving in the car and I was like thinking, and I was like, damn, every day is like a Russian roulette, like it's like it's a roulette, like that's what it is. Like, and I don't mean to scare anybody, that's what I'm sorry. You guys are gonna go home like all depressed. No, but I was really thinking about that, and I was like, how can I channel that fear or that feeling that that every day, like any day I can go is like into something positive, it's something positive, and it's true because you know, like how do I get this fear? Because the fear is always gonna be there. I don't know when I'm gonna go, but what do I do about that fear and that feeling? And it's like, well, I just have to enjoy. I enjoy my life, I enjoy every day, I enjoy everybody in it. And and recently, one of the things that I've been doing the most, um, and maybe because I'm at home and I have more time, but I've been calling like like I actually get the phone and I call like my aunts and my uncles, and I'm like, hey, how are you? And they're like, hey, like, thanks for calling. And even if it's like two, three minutes, I think I talked about it on here with somebody else we were talking about. But it's like to me, that I don't know, there's something in that that's like kind of healing that fear that I have and of losing them. Is like, okay, you know what? Getting to know the people around me and my life so that if when they do pass, I can feel like, okay, you know, I had a good time with them and it was enough.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, calling people in your family is important. Yeah, yeah, that's fire. Yeah, yeah. I feel like uh my wife is very good at that. Like uh, I would I would see my family when I would see them, but Alexi will be like, Oh, let's call Marty right now, my aunt. And then she'll and then I'm like, Okay, I guess we're talking to Mari. Now I'm in the background. Hi, Mari's a real one too, dude. It's funny because yeah, Alexi's Spanish is like because she's half white, half Filipina. Okay, but she can get through she could get sentences out and communicate. Hi Mari, como está? Does she speak Tagalop? Um no, but she'll she knows phrases. Right. So if we run into Filipinos and in in public, she'll she'll say hi to them and stuff, and then they'll be like, oh, why do you know how do you know that?
SPEAKER_14So do you think culturally, is it something that like culturally with her, or you think it's just her as a person?
SPEAKER_06Um that does that. It might be her as a person. Yeah, I feel like uh yeah, or maybe yeah, it might yeah, she's people people like her, like her. She's uh fun to be around.
SPEAKER_03No, she's a really she's a really cool girl. Like uh that's cool. Yeah, dude, like she's a very like high. Personable, yeah. Yeah, very personable, like funny. Yeah, seeing you guys together is just like hell yeah. My boy.
SPEAKER_14I know you just got married.
SPEAKER_03Just got married, dude. Congrats. Dude, you guys should have seen this guy like when he came back, like from his honeymoon. So uh we had uh we had my headlining show. Yeah, and it was there. Yeah, you guys were there. So Greg was great show, by the way. Great show. Thank you so much, dude. This guy had way too good of a set. It pissed me off. He was glowing, dude. He was glowing. Yeah, so he was like coming back from his honeymoon and his wedding, and like this man was just like on fire. He could do no wrong.
SPEAKER_16He went on stage with the biggest smile on his face. He kept on telling like the audience to like calm down.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, bro, it was fire. Yeah, what do you gotta hit with that? Like, you gotta tell it, calm down.
SPEAKER_06But did you feel that?
SPEAKER_04Like, because like everyone I talked to to be honest, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, um, those first five minutes I've have never come out of my mouth. I told those jokes for the first time there, and they crushed. Like, when I say crushed, I mean crushed. They did really good. And then um I have yet to go to like uh a mic and try them again. So I don't know if they're if they were good or if I was really just writing the energy in there. Um, but yeah, that was I would put that in my top one top three sets.
SPEAKER_03I mean, bro, that's like the best I ever saw you. Then I had to follow you, so I was just in the back fuming all mad about how happy you are. Right the way the way that was a really, really fun show. It was a really great crowd. I mean, I've told you a million times though, yeah. Like it was just like watching you go on stage, like not that you're not like a happy guy, but you are a very kind of like reserved person, and that was the first time that I saw you perform with like a lot of joy. Okay you know, like it was just kind of like I mean you guys probably agree. Like it was like you were just like legit, like you were glowing like guilt's joke around. Like, yeah, you were glowing, like you had so much joy in you, and I think like the audience just like fed off of that. Like we could tell that you were really happy, like you know, like yeah, it felt felt really good. Yeah, it was a good one. Then you're gonna watch your your fucking boyheadline, so that was also part of it.
SPEAKER_06Oh, yeah, yeah. Honestly, yeah. I was yeah, dude, you did a 20 minutes.
SPEAKER_03Uh you did more, right? I did uh I think the final timer was like 26.
SPEAKER_06So it was all natural and yeah, it was just a good ass room, a good ass actor. It was fun. Dude, yeah, it was just good vibes all around. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02What band did you have there? That's a soul kiss.
SPEAKER_06They're amazing.
SPEAKER_03They're so good. They're so good. They played Greg's wedding restoration. They were at my wedding restriction.
SPEAKER_06They had us they carried that uh party. Party bro, they did. Dude, we were all dancing for it's so funny. My mom was like, Oh, we're gonna get a DJ. I was like, Oh, we'll just do Soul Kiss. And she's like, Ah, but the DJ is gonna be good at like carrying like one song to the next and get keep the she had me like second guessing booking Soulkissed, and then they came out and they just fucking loved it.
SPEAKER_03Bro, it was so fun, it was so fun, so fun.
SPEAKER_06They were more fun than the DJ.
SPEAKER_04DJ Loki's so dad. I hope he doesn't watch this, bro. Oh, okay, okay.
SPEAKER_06All right, I'm getting now who the DJ might be. I no, he was good. He was good. My okay, only thing I'll I'll complain about the You know who you're talking about, right, Amber?
SPEAKER_02No, no, okay. Wait, go ahead. You was you guys know the DJ? I don't know, maybe maybe I do maybe I don't. Maybe I do, maybe I don't, I don't know. I only know one DJ that you guys know. Oh no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. I think it was a mutual friend.
SPEAKER_13No, he was like a hired. It was Daniel the Brahman.
SPEAKER_16Oh, you're talking about Daniel? I thought it was Daniel. I was like, you guys are really kidding Daniel?
SPEAKER_07I was like, doesn't he do that for a living?
SPEAKER_16I honestly thought. I honestly thought you were talking about Daniel. I was like, no way he's doing it in his dad.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you guys are there to have a good time. Yeah, Daniel was there to guest.
SPEAKER_13Oh, this was just when you guys hired it.
SPEAKER_16Yeah, just my bad. Okay.
SPEAKER_06I remember uh the one the one note I told him, I was like, oh, don't play sweet Caroline.
SPEAKER_04And he played it. Bro, he was hyped. Like you don't he was hyped to play it. That full like couldn't wait. He was rubbing his hands together. He couldn't wait to play his own.
SPEAKER_12So he probably does like waiting.
SPEAKER_04DJ didn't say guess. We had a no, it was good. The DJ was also fun.
SPEAKER_03But like but compared to Soulkiss, it's like hard to have our friends play their band. Yeah, like and like you saw Soulkiss, like it's not just because of the homies, they're incredible. Like those guys are so good.
SPEAKER_02But honestly, T, you can't compare a DJ to like a live band. Like live music is completely on a different playing field.
SPEAKER_03For sure, but to give them their props, like that they get the crowd like moving and dancing and stuff like that, and like that's difficult for anyone. So for them to be able to do that as a band, like to get everyone off the up on the dance floor, like even better.
SPEAKER_06I know the last show we had, they got off stage and just enjoyed the show. But when they're on stage with us, oh dude, they bring so much energy. Oh, they brings everyone's energy.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, no, yeah, when they're like playing in between sets and stuff like that. Like, no, like I can't say enough good things about those guys, they are way too talented to be open for stand-up comedy. Yeah, the guitarist Diego's the one that opened up the bag of chips. These are our boys. We've been friends with these guys for a really long time now. Like, um, shout out Soulkist. We love you guys. You should have dude. I mean, that I was gonna ask how many how many guys are in there? It's a four, yeah, it's a it's a four-man. But uh, we could get them in here and do something. Yeah, they're they're like they all like they have such great personalities too. They're all goof on, they're funny guys, they're super funny.
SPEAKER_06That'll be that'll be a good episode.
SPEAKER_03They're all gonna say some funny. They they say some out of they're crazy. Like, those are some wild boys. I love them though. Oh, yeah, Justin and Andrew and Jekyll, like uh yeah, can't say enough good things about soap kids. I'm a big fan.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, they're they're awesome. Uh we haven't had a band in a long time, right? On the podcast. Well, actually, we're gonna have Chris Logan next uh next week. Oh, cool. Remember the uh the remember him from Texas?
SPEAKER_14From Texas?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we're gonna have him check it out. Watch that.
SPEAKER_14Like uh his dad's white and then his mom's Mexican.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, cool. He's like blown up in the last year, but we're gonna have him next uh next week. Oh, it's good. Uh yeah, dude, I would love to have him come and do a podcast.
SPEAKER_03Um I'll get you in contact with uh Diego and Andrew. Okay.
SPEAKER_14Did your the wedding DJ did he take like was he the type of DJ that you can go up and be like, hey, can you play this song? Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Okay, I'm sorry we're talking shit about the case. No, because without him, the band wouldn't have been able to dance with us. That's also true. And then on top, he was just playing good songs too. Uh and then uh I like that me and Alexi were like giving him shout-outs beforehand, and he did all the shout-outs. Yeah, that was all the comics and the SGV. Oh, shout out to DJ Danny Buds.
SPEAKER_14It's because one time we did a birthday party for my mom, and it was kind of like last minute, and then my dad's like, we should get a DJ. And I was like, Dad, it's only like not even a week to the party. Like, I I will not be able to find a DJ. And then so I went on social media and I was like, Hey, anybody know a DJ? And then uh somebody I went to high school with was like, Hey, my cousin's a DJ, like he's really good, you know, and I know for a fact that he's available, which should have been a red flag for me when he said, I know for a fact.
SPEAKER_04I know he ain't got the DJ. But I was desperate, so I was like, hell yeah.
SPEAKER_03I know a very available DJ.
SPEAKER_14So I was like, okay, cool, hook me up, you know. And his cousin came out, and I think he charged us like I don't know, like 150 bucks, 200 bucks, you know. And then he's like this kid, and he comes and he's like all scrawny, and he has like his little table, and then he puts his table, and then he was like not going to drape his table or anything. And I was like, Oh, do you need like um how do you say a mantel? Uh a table cover. Table cover. And I was like, Do you need a table cover? He's like, no, no, no, no, no, that's cool. And I'm like, let me bring you a table cover, please. So then I went and I got like a sarape that we had, and he put it or whatever. And then he just had like his laptop, and then he's had one speaker. And then I was like, I was like, Oh, do you need help with your equipment? And he's like, No, no, no, I got it. This is all of it.
SPEAKER_05And I was like, He said, What do you mean? Yeah, equipment.
SPEAKER_14Yeah, and then my dad luckily had speakers, and he's like, Hey, bro, like, is it okay if we hook up like more? And then he's like, All right, yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever. So, anyways, the party starts, and then um he starts playing music, and then you know, people start like, hey, can you play? Blah blah blah. And then he he would just be like, like, like, okay, like, you know, like, all right, all right, and then he'd never play it. Oh damn. We were like, what the fuck? Like, and then my mom would be like, Can you play la la? Oh yeah, your mom's like that. He's like, Okay, uh-huh. And then at some point I was like, This wasn't playing in anything anyone's asking him for. So then I went up to him and I kind of went like on the side, and this one just made a playlist and it was called like party jams or something.
SPEAKER_04Like he's like turning knobs.
SPEAKER_14And then I was like, hey, can you uh like can you play a song? And he's like, It's because I have this program and I already like pre-programmed all the songs, so I can't like put a song in between. He couldn't put another fucking song, and I was just like, Okay, all right, and we got him for like four hours.
SPEAKER_02The party mix, the four-hour party mix. But was the party mix at least good?
SPEAKER_05We can't skip any songs. Yeah, I only have four hours, no skips, we can't do it.
SPEAKER_06Oh, that song comes up in after three seconds just fast forwards.
SPEAKER_12Yeah, I think there was like a repeat in there too. Are you kidding? It it was okay, it was a it was an okay mix, you know.
SPEAKER_11It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't like well, you guys could have done that.
SPEAKER_03You could let me just go on Spotify and just I didn't know that.
SPEAKER_02But that's what I get for the pre-Spotify, pre-Spotify playlist. How many years ago?
SPEAKER_06There's a lot of ads.
SPEAKER_02Can I ask a there's plenty of ads?
SPEAKER_03Sweet Carolina, like three times. We're talking about music and it just reminded me. Did you ever find pussy jams, Amber?
SPEAKER_14Oh, wait, that's right.
SPEAKER_03It was the new finding on pussy jams.
SPEAKER_14I just thought about that right now. My best friend started doing uh the Spotify um playlist. She's working on it. She's working on Playlists. But I think you can find it. She showed you, right?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I think so. I'm not gonna be the one who looks at pussy jams, but like That's right.
SPEAKER_14Okay, I'll tell her to send it to me right now.
SPEAKER_03Oh, please, yeah, I gotta know what's on there.
SPEAKER_14But she said because she's seen the clip and then she's like, I'm working on it. I'm like, okay.
SPEAKER_03Was it 2000? Basically like uh homegirl found like a CD, like uh someone like cleaned her car and left like a CD case in there. And they were looking to the CDs and they saw one that said pussy jams on there. And they said it had like nothing but bears on those.
SPEAKER_14It was like a whole like uh like you know when you used to put all the CDs like in a little like you would zip it case. Uh-huh. So it was I I think they were washing her car. She went to the car wash something, and then when she like got home and checked like her trunk, the whole case was in there, and she was like, What the heck? This isn't like mine. And then we opened it, and then in there we were looking at all the CDs, and then there was one, and it was written, and it was called Pussy Jams, Pussy Jams, and we're like, let's listen to this, and it was like really, really good. And then later on, we seen all the way in the back there was Pussy Jams 2.
SPEAKER_04Oh the the part that the the part that gets me pro is like you know this fool went on to make pussy jams three, four, five. That fool's probably still making pussy jams.
SPEAKER_06Like my cousin used to burn CDs for me as a kid. Um and she would like introduce me to like some cool stuff, uh Lizzie. She'd be like, I have like uh like the frigalicious or uh Beastie Boy, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Greg and I talk about how much we love the black eyebs all the time, dude. Like fucking like elephunk, dude. Yeah. Generational.
SPEAKER_15They're good, dude.
SPEAKER_03They had a gen, like it was a monkey business, elephant, monkey business, and the third. Fergie's from La Puente. Yeah, shout out Fergie. Is she really? Yeah.
SPEAKER_04We tried to get her a feathered surface. She said no.
SPEAKER_14I think after her, like that she peed on stage things. That was crazy.
SPEAKER_16What? You didn't know about that? No.
SPEAKER_14You guys didn't know about that?
SPEAKER_16I want to see it.
SPEAKER_14Yeah, I wanted to see one of her performances. She said it was sweat, but people were like, no. Oh, there was like a spot. Doesn't matter what. It doesn't matter what linked her pants were, Capris. Yeah, they're called pedal pushers too.
SPEAKER_02They are?
SPEAKER_14Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I don't know that.
SPEAKER_14Anyways, so she's on stage and she's performing, and then they they took picture, like a picture of her for a magazine, and like her whole crotch is like wet.
SPEAKER_15Dang.
SPEAKER_03Oh.
SPEAKER_14Yeah, and then people were like, yeah, she peed on herself.
SPEAKER_03And she did the national anthem thing, and everyone just like never forgave her. I want to see a reunion, bro. They haven't done a reunion before, huh? Um I want to see them get back together. Like, imagine, bro.
SPEAKER_06Just Will I am taboo. What's the other guy?
SPEAKER_03Uh Apple Apple Apple DF. Apple DF, yeah. Apple DF. Yeah. Bro, just kill Black Eyed Ps. If you're listening, I know you are. Let's get the reunion going.
SPEAKER_13We forgive you.
SPEAKER_03We don't have much time left in this world. I don't know how much time. Things are getting kind of crazy. I don't know how much time we have left. Think about your mortality. Think about your mortality. And I need you to get on the phone, just call Will I Am and just go, let's bring it back.
SPEAKER_02Okay, I see. That's a crazy outfit.
SPEAKER_14Oh, I guess they were just long shorts, no? Let's see.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, that's that's P.
SPEAKER_14That's P. Yeah? Yeah. You I mean you can get like swamp crotch, but not. Not specifically.
SPEAKER_03I feel like if she would have done this like in 2026, we'd all be like, that's fine. Yeah. We'd all be like, that's fine. She would have been a hero. If people were way more forgiving now, you know, say what you were about the world's getting way more empathetic. Yeah. The world's getting way more empathetic. Yeah, if you okay, Gil, if you hopped on your phone and you read an article, it said Fergie peeed herself. You know what you would say? You'd say, that's fine.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I would say, let me see it. Let me see the video. Let me see the video. Let me see the video. Let me see the TikTok. Let me see the YouTube show.
SPEAKER_14But when that people are like, uh you ain't cool unless you pee your pants.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah. Unless you pee your pants.
SPEAKER_14Um is Gwen Stefani.
SPEAKER_03What about her?
SPEAKER_14People do not like her anymore.
SPEAKER_03She wanted to be a Japanese girl?
SPEAKER_14No, because she's uh she's married, she's married to that to that one country star guy now. And then she's old. Yeah, and then and then she like transitioned like to like Christianity. And then she's like MAGA now. She really? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Oh, she married uh that wallen dude? No, no, no. I just threw out a shot. She was a grown age.
SPEAKER_03Oh, there we go. Shelton. You know what's so crazy about today's society is like if someone was like listening to this podcast and heard Greg say that, they would be like, you don't fucking he's married like we're gonna get attacked. You will get attacked. Our TikTok gets crazy. Yeah, I haven't gotten any haters like since. Like I was hoping, I'm hoping I get some. Nah, I still don't have any haters.
SPEAKER_12You're hoping you do?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, well, I was telling them, dude, like, because give us something it's like, bro, we get like mad like haters like on our clips sometimes. Like, bro, at least they're engaging with your content, bro. I got damn, you got y'all got how many views? Like, that's crazy.
SPEAKER_14No, because people swear that because you put a clip out or you're talking about something, you're like a fucking certified, you're certified in this, you know, whatever topic it is. And then we're like, guys, we're just we're in a basement.
SPEAKER_13Yeah, no, we're in the basement, like we're having fun.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we're in, we're in bleep this out paramount. Just like some exactly give them the address.
SPEAKER_14We're at but if if you believe everything off the internet, that's your fucking shit.
SPEAKER_03That's your fault. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_14Don't be uh like my mom. No, I'm not at the front of the mom. When you get older and you believe everything off Facebook, don't do that.
SPEAKER_03You be believing stuff on Facebook or what?
SPEAKER_14No, I'm saying like when old people get older, you know, like old people.
SPEAKER_03I thought you were saying a gil believed stuff. Oh no. That'd be so funny if we were like a flat earth. That'd be tell you.
SPEAKER_02The only thing that I believed was the there was this AI video of this old lady and a bear. Uh huh. I thought it the caption was like, uh, lady and Azusa befriends a bear.
SPEAKER_03You saw that like that.
SPEAKER_02And I was like, no, I was like, no way.
SPEAKER_16Amber, check this out. What are they doing in the Azusa bear lady?
SPEAKER_02I I legit thought I was like, oh man, it would be so cool to have her on the podcast. I legit thought that. I was like, oh, this would be so cool, Amber. You gotta check this person out, reach out to her, email her.
SPEAKER_03You think it'd be cool to have her on the podcast when the only thing you guys have in common is a bear. Like, what else would you guys talk about? I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Music, mortality, I don't know. Why people knock on wood? I don't know. But that's the only thing that I've I fell for.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah, Greg, have you fell for any AI videos?
SPEAKER_02I'm trying to think. No, not really.
SPEAKER_03Or is there any like is there any conspiracy theory that you guys are like maybe the flat earth thing for sure?
SPEAKER_02Do you really? Shut up. No. Okay. Yeah, you're doing it. I'm just saying that. I'm just saying that for clickbait right now.
SPEAKER_06Go out and say this. I like AI videos.
SPEAKER_03Do you know the name of the comic that you send me all the time? Because that's the only guy I've seen that makes good AI videos.
SPEAKER_04I I hate all of his AI slop, but Greg sends me this one comic who like he he he just creates so many AI videos. There's so there's one of him like I don't know what his goal is. There's one where he meets Harriet Tubman and they smoke weed together. It's so funny. Like she sits down, she's like, You're about to smoke weed with the ledge. It's so funny. Can you look him up? You would you be able to find him?
SPEAKER_06Can we plug it? Like, yeah, but also low-key, I'm like thinking, what if he's like mentally ill? Posting all those videos.
SPEAKER_04But they're so good. You don't want to you don't want to encourage I don't know. I don't know. You don't want to encourage that behavior. Well, he's a comic, right? That's how you know him. Uh yeah, I ran into him a few times. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_13So he's like a real person?
SPEAKER_04He's a real person. He just makes all these AI videos. Him meeting Harriet Tubman was wild.
SPEAKER_14I like the ones that are like you wake up and you're on the Titanic. And then it's like the view of like if it was actually have you guys seen those?
SPEAKER_09No.
SPEAKER_14And they take you to like Egypt, the Titanic, the like Aztec Empire.
SPEAKER_03It's like, damn, I'd rather be out here, huh?
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_12And I'm all in bed.
SPEAKER_06Shit, I was gonna go speak. The guy will be like, uh, I don't know what his name is, like, Panchito que se quito solo.
SPEAKER_03Bro, I feel like the wrong people are using AI. Because there's so much like BS that you see, but then like there is some really good stuff like being made. Like, very rarely you stumble across something like really good where it's like, alright, like you guys can have that one.
SPEAKER_14That's funny.
SPEAKER_02I like the one with uh I think it was uh who it was Bill Clinton holding uh Stephen Hawking. Or they were like they were like carrying him. Yeah. Bill Clint Bill Clinton was was holding uh Stephen Hawking. Like making him talk like a puppet. I it looked real. It looked real. That was another thing that almost got me too.
SPEAKER_04It was that video, you thought that's like a video they got?
SPEAKER_02Like fresh from Epstein's island.
SPEAKER_03He just wanted to hold him. Was it a picture?
SPEAKER_04He just wanted a cradle screen.
SPEAKER_13It was a picture.
SPEAKER_02It was a picture, right?
SPEAKER_13It wasn't a video. No, it was a picture.
SPEAKER_02Pull it a video.
SPEAKER_05Pull up the video of Stephen Hawking.
SPEAKER_02Actually, can you pull up the video of the Pulp Fiction thing? I want to see this.
SPEAKER_04Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_14Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I forgot about that. The streets are talking about this. Uh I don't know.
SPEAKER_14I had it already last week.
SPEAKER_02Oh we didn't get to. What happened last week? Uh look, I don't know. What did you guys have last week? Pulp fiction. Um I can't even remember. Kenny Weber.
SPEAKER_14Oh, yeah, that's right.
SPEAKER_06Alright. Uh you can edit this out, but there's a meme of it. That's like, if you if you got abused by this motherfucker, that's your fault. Don't make that a don't make that a real. Don't make that a real stuff with the Sometimes.
SPEAKER_02Well, you you see all this stuff that I did I No, I don't until you post it. I don't know, until you hear it, huh?
SPEAKER_14Until I got roasted that one time.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, remember you you did a reel where I was saying that like I saw Daniel Cabral watching horny videos, and I was like, oh, don't put that in. Then you like put that in the clip. Oh, for the the other podcast. Yeah, the other podcast. Yeah, we were talking about how like when you when you like you're on reels now, you can see which one of your homies like in videos. And just like watching a horny ass video. It's like, that is that Daniel Cabral?
SPEAKER_04Like, well, Daniel's opening his phone, and I'm like, what the fuck are you doing with that? That man is a devious algorithm. They edit this out.
SPEAKER_10This prayer was recited by Sandy One, which is one of the standards to all standings, all those A-10 crews, prior to all CSAR missions, but especially this C Star mission that happened in real time. They they call it C Star 2517, which I think is meant to reflect Ezekiel 2517. They're already laughing.
SPEAKER_17Yeah.
SPEAKER_10The path of the downed aviator is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of camaraderie and duty shepherd the lost through the valley.
SPEAKER_14There's one where they do him saying a verse and then the thin one. Hold on, let me know.
SPEAKER_02Find that one.
SPEAKER_14I think that this dude had no idea what he was saying. I think he's probably whoever did, whoever gave the speech needed to be a big thing.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah, I think whoever wrote his speech probably knew. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. I wonder how you get that gig. That would be a cool gig to have to write speeches. That'd be kind of fun, huh? Yeah. I would do that for sure.
SPEAKER_03Was there a politician you're like, I want to write for them?
SPEAKER_02Ronald Reagan?
SPEAKER_03Fuck yeah.
SPEAKER_02I mean my mom is dead now, but if if if I would be able to oh, I think it's that one. If I would be able to write for for uh Republican, probably Ronald Reagan.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, because I don't say any politician, I go JFK every time. Yeah? Oh yeah, I write for JFK.
SPEAKER_08And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger, those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers.
SPEAKER_10And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance, those who attempt to capture and destroy my brother.
SPEAKER_00A recent speech from Pete Hegseth may sound familiar to movie fans. The Secretary of Defense cited a Bible verse when speaking at a Pentagon worship service on April 15th.
SPEAKER_09Uh-oh.
SPEAKER_00But the scripture he quoted appeared to resemble an embellished version made famous in Quent Tarantino's 1994 classic Pulp Fiction.
SPEAKER_10Ezekiel 2517. They call it CSAR 2517, which I think is meant to reflect Ezekiel 2517.
SPEAKER_00Hag Sath credited the prayer to a U.S. Air Force team that rescued American soldiers from Iran in recent weeks, but social media was quick to draw parallels with that I was a monologue from Samuel L. Jackson.
SPEAKER_04That's crazy that you're like everything else.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it wasn't too bad. Like there was a the traffic got bad though, all random.
SPEAKER_17I'm gonna stop the video. Okay. The audio's gonna keep going.
SPEAKER_03I gotta work today. Yeah, yeah. I worked uh what did I work? Uh five to one five to one. Damn, I missed those early ashes. Dude, they're fun. Yeah, you get out early. Because you said they're early seeming to be there at six, huh? It was like six thirty. That's crazy. That's kind of nice too, though.
SPEAKER_06They have the noise order ordinance. Because there's an apartment right there. Oh shit. So they can't even back into the where we're supposed to unload.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, until 6 30.
SPEAKER_06So then they go on the other side of the store and we wheel everything through the front door. Bro, that's that's insane.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. No, that's that's some fuck shit. I don't like the Damn. Hair drills really just be opening stores places. I know. You still getting like three days? Shit, my bad. Right into the day.
SPEAKER_06Um no, I've been getting five recently. But uh this week, three. That's crazy. Like I how I told you last week.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah. Oh bro, I would have been heated. Oh, I'm meeting the guys uh from uh sonar in La Puente uh like Tuesday afternoon before the mic.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_03Oh, so that's fuck, that's tomorrow. Oh no, sorry, that's next week. All right, we're back. I gotta look at my schedule again.
SPEAKER_14We've actually been on the whole time.
SPEAKER_06Oh video, the video's back. Sorry, next Tuesday.
SPEAKER_03Anyway, sorry.
SPEAKER_06Alright, so he's quoting Samuel L. Jackson.
SPEAKER_08Those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers.
SPEAKER_10And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to capture and destroy my brother. And you will know my name is the brother.
SPEAKER_03The delivery. Yeah, if you if you like the way he delivered the my brother. And you will know my calling.
SPEAKER_10He's trying to Sandy One. When I lay my vengeance upon thee.
SPEAKER_00The actual Ezekiel 25, 17 verse is quite simple reading, and I will execute great vengeance upon them with furious rebukes, and they shall know that I am the Lord when I shall lay my vengeance upon them. Tarantino's adaptation of the passage drew from a 1970s Japanese martial arts movie, and Jackson's performance elevated it to a pop culture phenomenon. While it seems Hegzeth is aware that the version he was told also takes creative liberty, it's not clear if he's familiar with its similarity to pulp fiction. Neither Hegzeth nor the Department of Defense immediately responded to the online uproar.
SPEAKER_02Come on, Pete.
SPEAKER_06Stinky Pete. Stinky Pete.
SPEAKER_14Where's my super I honestly don't think he knew? I think he's that dumb.
SPEAKER_06He knew. I think they think this whole thing is a joke. Those bastards. Yeah, they're not.
SPEAKER_03I think Obama would be fun to ghost write for. Obama? Yeah. Let me be clear. Let me be clear.
SPEAKER_02I don't know. Clinton. I I would write for Clinton. Uh no, you know who would be good? Bush. Bush would be fucked. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, he's got that delivery. Yeah, bro. Now watch Clinton.
SPEAKER_03My all-time favorite YouTube video is like now watch this drive. Have you guys seen that one? Can we can we can we sure it up? It's super short. What is it? Tell me exactly what it is. George Bush, now watch this drive. It's like listen, the man had finesse. George Bush? Yeah. Watch this video, and you're gonna tell me this. Yeah, that one right there. 16 seconds long.
SPEAKER_01We must stop the terror. I call upon all nations to do everything they can to stop these terrorist killers. Thank you. Now watch this drive.
SPEAKER_05It's so sick. Stop.
SPEAKER_04That's pretty funny. Like he just did not care.
SPEAKER_02Hold on. Was this uh before or after 9-11? That sounds like after 9-11. Yeah, after he didn't get played.
SPEAKER_03No one said terrorists like that before until like after 9-11. That's okay.
SPEAKER_14Wait, oh you said these terrorists.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay. I was just focused on his outfit. Play it again. Sorry, I I was I have We must stop the terror.
SPEAKER_01It's called terror nations to do everything they can to stop these terrorist killers.
SPEAKER_02Said it twice. Thank you.
SPEAKER_01Now watch this girl.
SPEAKER_03Oh yes.
SPEAKER_06Greg, do you have a favorite president? I'm gonna say Teddy Roosevelt. Hell yeah. Uh didn't he implement the national parks? Yeah, that was Teddy. Yeah, hell yeah. Yeah, okay. I say him. That's a good one. You're a park uh I'm a history major. I don't know any like isn't it US history too? Yeah, I don't like dwelling on the past.
SPEAKER_13Wait, what did you want to do with with uh history to take that degree?
SPEAKER_06Honestly, just get a degree. Um yeah, in my head I was like, okay, I'm I really want to do stand-up after college. So yeah, I just wanted to get a degree and get it over with. I don't know why, but yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_03I just think it's funny you could have gotten something in like a degree in some like entertainment adjacent, but like not history. History's fellow easy.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I just picked something that didn't involve math. I feel like I could have been a good like English major, but at the same time, I don't know.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_14But there's something about history. Like history was one of those those things that I liked that wasn't math, because I'm horrible at math too. It's just one of those things like I don't know, it's like learning something and I Yeah. I mean it's like any subject, right? But I feel like history. If I were to history would be on my top maybe five things to get a degree.
SPEAKER_02If you like history, have you seen uh 1941? Which was that one? By Steven Spielberg with uh John Wait, is that the one where the guy just runs the whole time? No. This is who who else is in there? We've just seen it. John Belushi.
SPEAKER_14John Belushi.
SPEAKER_02Oh, really? John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd's in it. Um Candy.
SPEAKER_14What's his name?
SPEAKER_02John Candy's in it. Oh, what? That's a podcast.
SPEAKER_06What uh when did it come out?
SPEAKER_021979 or 89? It was 89. Is it 89? Yeah. No, I have not seen it. 1941. It's set place in uh like after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. It's it's uh campy comedy. It it's it's really fun. Oh, what? Okay. Yeah, it's really fun to watch.
SPEAKER_11Yeah, watch it.
SPEAKER_02So I'm uh if you like history. Well, it it honestly, it's not really historical.
SPEAKER_07No, where are you?
SPEAKER_02You watch it and you tell me it was gonna happen.
SPEAKER_03You wrote your final paper, you wrote about something crazy, right?
SPEAKER_06What was the Well you had to come up with something that hasn't been studied, so I was like, yeah, and it has to be very specific. I I don't I don't condone academics. I don't know. Um but it was like um it was something dumb. I had to write a paper on like I because you have to look at like primary sources, so you can't read other history books. It has to be like people, stuff that came out at that time, like first, like accounts. Oh uh and I think I wrote about like something about like I just threw out like big buzzwords like oh feminism and 19 something, Mexico, uh yeah, I don't know. I was coming up with shit.
SPEAKER_12I just need to pass.
SPEAKER_03I just need a C plus. Honestly, just pass me, please. That's crazy.
SPEAKER_06Did you finish in four years? Yeah, what the I did two years at Citrus College, those were the best two years of my life. I love community college. Community college is yeah, community college was cool. More of a Mount Sack guy, but yeah, because it's small, yeah, yeah. I liked it. I got good grades in community college. Oh yeah? You went to Cal State LA, right? Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_14I wish I would have tried harder. Because I I I did. I went, I did the whole college thing, and then I was just like, Did you finish? No, I never finished because we opened that's when we opened here. Where'd you go? So I was still going. Well, I was going to LBCC, and then I was getting ready to transfer.
SPEAKER_07Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_14Um, I had all my stuff and everything like ready, and then my sister's like, Oh, hey, by the way, we want to open a you can still do it. I don't want to do it anymore, honestly. I'm kind of like, I don't want to go.
SPEAKER_03Bro, going back to school sucks. I'm in school right now, bro. I don't talk about it a lot. Um, really? Yeah, I'm in school right now. Oh, yeah. Um, it's so fun. What's so interesting to me is to hear Greg talk about his like college experiences. Like, I don't use any of that because I feel like I've studied a couple of different things. I've Like in and out of college my entire life. It's really embarrassing to admit. No, no, it's not embarrassing at all. But I have my associate's degree in uh theater, and like so much of what I learned getting my associate's degree in theater feeds into like our show production and what we do now and stand-up comedy and like being a good show producer and stuff like that. It's all stuff I learned, like developing our own plays and stuff like that, and putting on good shows. And now I'm a business major, and like so much of what I study now is the same thing relates to like you know how to have a conversation and try to make money. Money's coming, Greg, I promise eventually. But um no, like everything I study like always like directly affects like what's going on in my life. Like I feel like I use what I learn in school like all the time.
SPEAKER_02No, you have to. I mean, why why go to why take time out of your life and not apply it? Brother, I ask myself that every time I have to go to class. Uh-huh. It's like, why am I doing this? Well, no, no, I'm saying if you're gonna use your time to go and learn something, why not use what you learned to apply it in your everyday life or whatever project that you're you're working on?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, like right now, like next semester, I'm actually gonna be on campus again and I'm taking a um it's like a because my degree, I'm I go to Cal State Fullerton, and my degree is an emphasis in business entrepreneurship. And so like the the my the final courses I need to take are all related to like what I'm doing right now. It's like securing funding for a small business startup, like it's a class. Yeah, it's like like how to secure funding for your small business startup, um like m business marketing for a small business startup, like everything that I'm taking now is like directly affecting like kind of like what I'm trying to do, you know. So it's really interesting, like seeing how these things like correlate. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Especially something like business you can use for anything, right?
SPEAKER_03Kinda, yeah. That's what they say. But like small like business is like dying. You know, you go to a mall nowadays and like, what are we gonna open here? Nothing, dude.
SPEAKER_02It's everything's dead, everything's just I was it you, Amber, that told me that uh the I guess like the big business model is dying out that like in the next like decade uh people are gonna go to the entrepreneurial uh they're gonna go to the entrepreneurial like uh model for business because it's just gonna be a small businesses, and that's what's happening now. It's like there's a lot of entrepreneurs.
SPEAKER_03Well then what happens is the big businesses start parading as like small businesses. You're gonna see like you know, like Nike is gonna be like a small business like shoe startup, and you'd be like, Oh, I'm so glad I'm supporting this small business in here in Long Beach, and then it's just like, oh, it's actually Nike. Yeah, yeah. That's probably what's gonna happen, I would imagine, next.
SPEAKER_14I feel like again, when I when we opened, so it's gonna be 10 years now that we've made it, which is crazy.
SPEAKER_03That is insane. That's congratulations. That's awesome.
SPEAKER_14It's gonna be 10 years, and I remember when they told us they were gonna open Starbucks right across, and we were like, fuck. Yeah, like that's it, we're done. Like, what do I do now? And I and I remember going home and being like, God damn it, I should have fucking finished my degree because now I'm not gonna have a job. Like, like it was one of those legit like a concern of like, you know, what the fuck.
SPEAKER_06How far into this business did they open that Starbucks?
SPEAKER_14Um, so we were already here, so we were already at this location. Because we didn't start at this location.
SPEAKER_07Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_14We started down the street at like, I don't know, maybe a quarter of what this build no, maybe even less of what this building was. So they probably opened the Starbucks like in 20. They started like in 2021, so kind of where the pandemic was. Like halfway through, maybe and I mean it it just doesn't compare. Like, I I'm not not too toot our horn, but it's just this different. There's something different.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, people hate Starbucks. Well, that and then it you guys offer like the whole like um like the Mexican background of like um like even the stuff that you order is like cafe de olla, you have like these little designs of the churros and the luchador mask and the stuff. Yeah, the food here is really good too. So it's like there's a a feeling that they get here that they don't get from. And I feel like that's that's basically it. You need you want you want to feel something when you're when you're gonna be able to do that.
SPEAKER_14Yeah, and that's what's happening with a lot of the larger corporations. Like, even though we all use like Amazon per se, right? We ever we all use it. Like we use it. No, you don't use it?
SPEAKER_03I I at all staunchly, I never order off Amazon. There's there's certain I have certain non-negotiables for myself. I'm I swear to you, I don't order off Amazon. Like never. Like I just like I just like I understand, like it's so hard to be like a conscious consumer, and like I would never fault anyone for using Amazon, but it's one of those things where I like listen, I worked in a a shopping mall for 10 years of my life. Like, you know what I mean? Like, I fundamentally just disagree with Amazon's model and like what it's done to our world and what it's done to businesses and what it's done, like, you know, what it's done to our society, you know what I mean? So it's just one of those things where I staunchly like will never, I never order off Amazon. I can't, I can't do it.
SPEAKER_14And I feel like more people are we're open, I mean I don't want to say opening our eyes because it sounds so cheesy, but we're coming to that realization of like, oh shit, like this is happening. And and one of the biggest things like here, like I'll say even here in Paramount, like Paramount has always been um a mom and pop city. It's kind of like downtown Long Beach does like downtown Long Beach doesn't accept any chains or anything like that. There's a McDonald's in Long Beach, but it's on the outskirts of Long Beach. That's crazy because their model is mom and pop. Like that that's why there's so many, like, like you know, like little hole in the wall places when you go there. Paramount used to be like that, and recently they started bringing in like like the bigger corporations and things like that, and now people are upset and they're going to like the town hall meetings and saying, like, hey, we don't want these big corporations in you know, in our town, we want to keep the mom and pops. And I one of the things that I thought was kind of funny because I read on on Instagram one time or recently, um, so they're gonna put a Dutch Bros here in Paramount, right up the street from us as well.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_14And then somebody wrote in the comments, um, you know, way to go, Paramount, um, way to bring our city up. And to me, I was like, You're measuring your city coming up, not by all these programs that the city actually does and and beautifying the city and and everything that it does for its community, you're you're putting the standard on having a fucking Dutch business. Like to me, that's crazy at how consumerism is like at that all-time high. And then so I feel like we're very divided um as like a community. It's like some people are fighting against it and some are like it. Like, you know what? To me, it's crazy. So owning a business that kind of brings that model of like community, it's hard. It's hard to have people continue walking in through your doors and feeling that sense of why why am I gonna give you my money where I can go across the street and get it quickly? But I feel like people that do shop in mom and pop places and take the time to get off, or even like it's people that are looking for community, and that's that's purposely what you're going for is that feeling of you know, you're doing something.
SPEAKER_02Which is which is a uh a symptom of com uh consumerism. So what what they're feeling, why they're they're going to these different places is is searching for that feeling, that type of branding, that the way that this company is making me feel is a symptom of the over-consumerism of of America. Right? So I think that as as consumerism is go grows and I guess depletes or whatever, uh, I don't know, there's AI is gonna come up with a whole remember what our uh we we have this meeting uh every Saturday with uh we have a partner for the studio and we meet every Saturday morning and he's what he it he what he read uh in an article is that what did he say that there's gonna be uh they're they're doing these these businesses where it's just like one like CEO and all their employees are all like artificial intelligence.
SPEAKER_14Crazy. It's starting already.
SPEAKER_02I think as that happens, like there's just gonna be this huge different different gap that's happening, right? You're gonna have that that business model of one CEO and completely like all AI employees on one end, and then on the other end, you're gonna have the small business model on how it used to be. And I think that it's just gonna be a way bigger divide. Brother, don't stop at the CEO.
SPEAKER_03Get rid of that guy too. All all AI.
SPEAKER_14Well, we're gonna be like fucking Terminator.
SPEAKER_03Nah, for real. I do have one counterpoint for Amber, which is like, have you tried Dutch Bros though?
SPEAKER_14I have, and I I'm not a fan. Not not because I did anything.
SPEAKER_03I like the I like the Shark Attack. Shark Attack's fire. I'm just I'm fucking with Shark Attack.
SPEAKER_14But but I'm kind of biased because I don't I'm not like a sugary, or not sugary, but like I I drink like black coffee, yeah. No, I feel like shit like that, you know. So it to me, maybe if I did, maybe I I would like Dutch Bros.
SPEAKER_03Nah, no, you don't have to like Dutch Bros. It's fine. Like the Dutch Bros is fine. Like Dutch Bros. No, they're by no means like incredible.
SPEAKER_14No, I mean I I I've gotten Starbucks. I you know, like I'm not I'm not against these corporations and I'm not like oh my god, fucking guys like no, because I feel like okay, like there's a time and a place. Yeah, well what are we gonna do? I'm gonna be mad at fucking Starbucks across the street the entire time and like waving my fist every day. Like, no, it's just you have to kind of but mom and pop, it's very, very hard to continue to keep mom and pop shops alive in every sense in in coffee and food and retail. I mean, now we even say like people are like, Oh, I'd rather go and get something cheap, you know, to eat at fast food versus going and getting like and I get it where our economy is, and it's like it's fucked, so everybody's trying to survive. But yeah, but it does suck to see some of your favorite like mom and pop shops getting closed or you know, taken down, or yeah, you know, a lot of the times they're demolishing the entire thing and then they're building a detrimental, I guess.
SPEAKER_03Should come to a makeshift comedy show and support small business.
SPEAKER_06Um Feathered Serpent. Feathered serpent.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, Le Fuente. That's that's kind of mine and Greg's business model is we like to like pop up in small businesses and like kind of help support and like uh check out the community and like put on events for them. I mean, that's literally a business model, you know what I mean? Like to partner with them and like like Gil was saying, like, you know, these people are so hungry for community, that's why they come to spaces like that. So if you can go into like your local brewery that like is like mom and pop own and put on a comedy show for them, dude, like people are coming out in like full force and supporting and hanging out.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, it it does feel like we're like we're a part of something kind of fun. And yeah, that word community definitely I feel it in in that space.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Even dude, even that skate shop show. We did we did a show in a skate shop in Glendora. Shout out Kickflip Skate in Glendora.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I'm wearing the show.
SPEAKER_03He's wearing the wearing the show right now, it's perfect. But like it was like it was so funny because like we um we went to go put on the show. I I know the owner, and I know um we went to go put the show on there, and he's like, Hey, is it okay if some people like from like the shop come and like hang out? I was like, Yeah, dude, of course, it's comedy, it'll be fun, it'll be like universal. And bro, there was like 20 like 16-year-olds that like came to this comedy show.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, kind of forgot that the only people that skate are teenagers.
SPEAKER_04Are like all teenagers, yeah. So like we just had like a bunch of teenagers at this comedy show.
SPEAKER_06That's awesome.
SPEAKER_03And uh, and our friends up there talking about how she works in a bar and stuff, and like these kids have never been in a bar in their life. It was it was an interesting crowd, but like um hey, 16-year-olds like to laugh too, you know what I mean? Like it was like um, but it was the same kind of feeling where it's like the community, their community came out like to support and like be a part of something and be part of like you know, something that's happening. Like, um, so every time we pop up in a show, we have another show in May, May 20. I shouldn't know the date. Um, but we're doing it at my buddy's tattoo studio. Um, he has a tattoo studio Cherry Hills in LA, and they're in this big art building, and I'm really excited about that show. It's just another like cool like community of artists, and you know, we're hoping that's the same thing that people come out and support the show, and I think they will, like they they always do, you know. People really like to like come out and support stuff like that's happening in their media community.
SPEAKER_02And it's not only that, dude, it's you you guys throw on really cool shows. Yeah, we try, really cool shows. On top of that, people, yeah, we want to get together, we wanna build community, we wanna go see some comics, but you guys go uh a step further and throw a really good show, and I think all of that, all of that together.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I learned how to do that in college, Greg. See?
SPEAKER_14But it does it does differentiate you guys from I mean, for me not doing comedy.
SPEAKER_02Anyone can just throw a speaker, put a speaker out there, and uh have a microphone, not even have a mic stand, and hey, this come out to our comedy show. No, like you it it sure you can do that, whatever. People can do that, fine. Go ahead and be my guest, do that. But there's no experience, and you guys are creating an experience.
SPEAKER_03No, I really appreciate that, man. Like, I just like I think Greg would agree. Like, it's just like there's a lot of really good comedy shows, but I want to put on a great comedy show. Yeah, yeah. And it's it's all about just thinking about what the audience is experiencing from the minute that they walk into your space and curating that experience. Like, what are they hearing? What are they smelling? What are they experiencing? And keeping every single one of those elements in mind, like when you're producing a show. It's like, does it look good? Like, how can we light this better? How can we make this sound better? You know, it's just like you have to be conscious of all those elements, and like that's how you create something that lasts, and that's how you create something that's meaningful. Um, that's why we've been doing it for like what, like four years now? Uh yeah, something like that. Just about, yeah, almost.
SPEAKER_02And you guys were you guys, even before people are going down to the show, you guys are hanging, which is a awesome touch. You guys are hanging out at the door, like welcoming people in. Yeah. I mean we and then warning Greg told me he was like, dude, you're gonna be hot in that jacket. You better take that off. I was like, all right. I was like, okay, this is a nice touch. This is a nice he thought about me.
SPEAKER_06The first show. Well, yeah, I didn't learn that at school, I learned that at Trader Joe's customer service.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I'm sorry to cut you off, Amber, but what were you saying?
SPEAKER_14I don't know, I forgot.
SPEAKER_02Say something that you you don't do comedy, but you enjoy whatever outsider's perspective.
SPEAKER_14I was gonna say from outsider's perspective of like when he first started doing comedy, that I was like, yeah, I'll go with you to everything, you know? And then I got burned out really quickly because I was like, oh, like this is fun, but it's not like fun, fun for me to do often, you know. And and I think that from someone that puts like, I mean, we've done our share of events here, you know, we get to play around uh here at our chateria, which is amazing for us. And I think we're we're very similar to you guys in the sense of like you want to produce an entire experience from beginning to end. How did you feel? How did this? How did that? And what I was gonna say is like going to to your shows, like well, I've been, I think, twice already. Like, it's so much fun for me that I'm like, hell yeah, like let's go. Like he'll tell me, and I'm like, Yeah, like I want to go because I know that it's there's gonna be different elements, I know that it's gonna be fun, I know it's gonna be somewhere that's really cool, like so. You know, props to you guys on that, and really taking everyone's kind of vantage point of what you know they'd like to see.
SPEAKER_02So four years already, you guys are doing it a while, yeah. Give me the before we we end, like what's the what's the origin story? We met at work.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we met at work, yeah. We were we met at Trader Joe's. Um I don't know, I've never heard you tell this story.
SPEAKER_02From your perspective, yeah, because I remember you telling me on on the other podcast, but I want I want to hear from Greg.
SPEAKER_06From my perspective, I was just uh I was just going to open mics. I haven't even got I haven't even been booked on a show yet when we finally met. Because I remember we were all stoked when I finally did get booked. That's right. And then um, but yeah, I just kind of told Alex like the I've I think people kind of say talk about being they find out you do stand-up, people talk about it, and I think Alex was like, Oh, I heard you do stand up. I was like, uh, oh yeah, yeah, I'm going to uh uh mic today. And then Alex was like, Oh yeah, I'll tag along. I was like, All right, but you you get on stage too, man. I was like, um, and he did, and then uh yeah, we've been at it for for all these years now.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, no, it was fun. Like, I like the early days of like going to mics together was so fun. Like we would just drive all the way. Like, remember the offbeat, like going to the offbeat mic every week. Like, that I don't even think that mic's there anymore. Yeah, the off-beat doing that mic, going to chatterbox together every week. Like, it was just like it was just fun, man. It was just so the energy was so fun, it was so exciting, and like um I don't like when we first started getting booked on shows. This is this is at least how it started for me. Like, we started getting booked on shows in L.
SPEAKER_02So you guys liked each other when you guys first met. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. I mean me and me and Ricky, we did not like each other when we first met.
SPEAKER_03No, we've never had beef.
SPEAKER_02Like, well, no, me and Ricky never had beef. No, we have beef now that we're friends. We we have more beef now that we're friends. No, just uh okay. I just want to say that.
SPEAKER_03No, like um, but like so the the reason I wanted to start a show was because it one, it like we were we were getting booked on a lot of shows in LA, uh, and it was really our friends wanted to come out and support, but it was so far, and they would still come out and support, but it was like such a pain in the ass that I'm gonna drive. What was it? Um we were getting booked on shows. I was doing like uh the Broadwater, uh I did a show at the Lyric Hyperion, places like that. Um, but it was just so far, and it was like a little bit like pricier, you know what I mean? So I came to Greg with the model of like, I want to create something that's like affordable and local. You know what I mean? Let's do something that's affordable, local, and just put on like a really, really good show. And then uh my buddy Kevin Williams is uh he helps run the Fred House in Covina. That's where we do our show. It originally started as Basement Dwellers Comedy. He's the film guy, right? Yeah, yeah, he does all of them. He films all of our shows. But um, I knew he worked there, I knew about the basement, and they did music events there, and this was like right after COVID, I think like 2021, 2022 is when we started doing the shows. And so they hadn't even started doing music shows again yet. But I asked Kevin, like, is there any way we can just rent out the basement and do a show down there? Because I knew like I've been hanging out at the fret house since I was like, you know, like 19. Like Kevin worked there, and then my other buddy Chips like played music there. So I had been hanging out in that basement forever, and then like when we wanted to do a comedy show, I was like, this is the perfect place to do it, you know. And then all those elements kind of came together, and like we we booked Diego to play our like uh our show, and everything just came together like perfectly. We got it right pretty quick, luckily.
SPEAKER_06Um yeah, that's that's crazy. Yeah, because we just I feel like we just know people that are down to come out, and everyone's pretty local, yeah. And yeah, we've been doing it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we just know a bunch of talented fools too. Like Kevin does really great with the filming, he helps produce the shows too. Anything anytime I'm stressed out, he's he's helping like pick me up. I mean, the band, I mean, like we like we were just lucky and fortunate enough to meet Diego. You know, Diego worked with us at Trader Joe's too, and so Andrew Goosman in the band, he worked at Trader Joe's too. Like, we were just lucky enough to know really talented people.
SPEAKER_06We're lucky enough we not only to know someone in a band, but them be that good.
SPEAKER_03Like, honestly, I'm not gonna lie to you guys, we got music on a whim because I did my buddy Steven Moreno's show in uh Arcadia at the Baben Busters, and he had his buddy on stage kind of playing the Tarbra chain comics, and I was like, Oh, that'd be kind of cool to do. So I just knew Diego was in a band. I've never even heard his music, and I was like, hey dude, do you want to open like for the comedy show? He's like, Yeah, yeah, yeah. And they just freaking they outperform us every time. Like, I've had so many comics tell us, like, why are they opening for us? Like, this is insane. Like, they're so good. Do they do gigs anywhere else? Oh, yeah, they're all over the place, they're doing shows all the time. They're actually uh Tanya from the Feathered Serpent just booked them to play the uh their two-year anniversary show. Oh, that's yeah, so they got booked on that. Um, they just did uh Greg's wedding reception. But they do they do bars and stuff too. Like I would love to, like, I haven't talked to you about this, but I would love to do like a makeshift music. Like I would love to do like a music night, maybe like make music, like have maybe like one comedian host it and maybe do like maybe like ten at the top, but then make it solely focused on like the music and book a couple bands and like do something like that. Yeah, do you dropping out on you on this podcast? No, I just I always thought that would be fun. I always thought that would be fun, like to like do like uh you know makeshift music. Fuck it. Yeah, we've one of our buddies at work. Uh Greg doesn't work at the same store as me, but he worked with this guy, he's a rapper, and he used to be in like a rap group and he used to like open for all these like big rappers and stuff. And like I'm trying to get him to come out of retirement. Uh fingers crossed, hopefully that's coming soon. Like, I'm gonna have a rap group open for the comedy show. Like, I also just like doing weird stuff. That's also how the shows end up. Like, I like finding weird spaces to do shows, I like trying to combine.
SPEAKER_14things that are weird and but the thing is like it dude look at you have your you have the vision you have an idea and you go for it definitely but like to me it's like anyone can do what we do like do you is there do you feel there's anything special about what we do I mean we work we do work hard but anyone can do what we do you know no I no thank you no like I said earlier I was like dude any any yahoo can bring a speaker and say hey this is a comedy show I booked a couple of comedians no like there there's a lot more detail that goes into it people could care more like to me like caring isn't hard like caring isn't something yeah but they won't that's that that's where our talent lies caring caring but it's also it it is caring but it's also you can care but still suck at it no but you you have some kind of artistic like eye yeah it it not everybody has that and and that's what I used to think too and the reason I used to say like oh well anybody can do it was because I wouldn't give myself enough credit that I was capable and that you know what I what I'm doing is kind of cool and what I'm doing is give yourself credit so we deflect yes so we deflect and we say anybody anybody can do it and it's like no not anybody can do exactly what you're doing.
SPEAKER_03To deflect out of just don't respect the arts.
SPEAKER_14Also that'll be weird if we were on here like yeah we're the best imagine like that's the clip that they draw and and you don't have to say like oh yeah what we're doing no but you know because that took it took us a really long time too to to say like oh you know what maybe you're right like maybe it is because why because one you're having fun two it comes effortlessly sometimes where you're just like ah fuck it like you're stressed but it's still everything falls into place right yeah and then you're just like ah it's easy like yeah I could do this with my eyes closed.
SPEAKER_03So you think that anyone can do it but it's it's not no curating is a skill like you know what I mean like we do like curate like okay I mean we create everything you know I mean we even talk about like okay which comics are like good with which comics and like what's gonna be a good show and like what's gonna be like a good band book and like it I guess that is a skill. Yeah it's just so I don't know it's hard to give myself credit. Give yourself credit. Alright well she's like alright that that's that's me giving credit That's the best you're gonna get no you have to no why not yeah why not what what are you gonna lose out of it giving myself credit yeah like I just don't like fools that are into themselves. I just don't like like stuck up fools like but you're not a stuck up fool. I don't know like I just I think it's like just because you give yourself credit doesn't mean you're stuck up I just think okay I guess I guess you have a little bit of self-worth the reason the real reason the real reason is like it's like because it's not just me and like I am nothing without all the people that I work with without Greg without Kevin without Diego and the band and Andrew and Justin and Jekyll and like uh even like we're like with Tanya at the Feathered Serpent who I love and who is so like great Amori who helps us do the shows too and like dude just all these people like even the bartenders Gloria at the Feathered Serpent like everyone just comes together to create something really really cool. And to me it's just like all I did was ask permission and like everyone else came together and made it happen. So I guess that's why I have trouble giving myself credit because it's just like I'm just the fool who walked in was like let's do it and then everyone else just kind of came together. It's like props to everyone else.
SPEAKER_02Like I guess props to me too but like to me it's just it's so much about everyone else like you know yeah wow what did you say that I I I didn't ask for permission or I asked for permission.
SPEAKER_03All I do is ask for permission.
SPEAKER_06Oh my god that's like that if if we were talking about like caring seriously dude I got goosebumps when you said that yeah Alex I'm not joking Alex is very good at at like um just have like you guys said an eye for curating like like uh he'll just come up to me be like oh yeah so I have a buddy who tattoos and I I think my role is kind of like fuck yeah or kind of being like alright hold hold on yeah no there's been some I've had some crazy ideas I've had some bad listen I've had some bad ideas like but I think that's the thing is like you're having ideas and how else are we gonna get there?
SPEAKER_02Yeah you gotta have some bad ideas yeah no there's um I won't name anything but there's been some things where I'm like ah I don't know about that one that was like we've had some misses for every good idea I have I at least have like at least 10 10 horrible ideas yeah and some of them I do and I'm like oh my god like a year later maybe not even a month later it's like a year later you know what I think that was a horrible move horrible move but uh you just have to have those yeah and if you think about them too much you won't do it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah I'm I'm really good at not thinking about it and just going for it. I just like we need some of that yeah I need some of that but dude I'm really excited about the slate of shows that we have coming up at Feathered Serpent so what do you guys got going on?
SPEAKER_02What's up?
SPEAKER_06Uh let me I'm I'm trying to load it oh there it goes oh I'm excited about our new open mic that we're doing well I pull that up you want to talk about the open mic I'm so excited about the open mic uh it's gonna be every week in Arcadia California at Astronaut City on Tuesdays at 8 p.m uh 7 p.m. 7 to 9 yeah 7 to 9 after this if you want to hang out are you serious? Yeah there's gonna be carry after this week we won't be in charge of that but um yes yeah I've been wanting to do an open mic for so long dude insane this spot just kind of like uh everything worked perfectly to where like it just worked we we like working with Teresa she's she's uh she's a badass she she like runs that whole place and uh just lets us be like free with like we do have a lot of freedom there yeah with the when it comes to like our marketing and our promotional materials and like even when we're there like she's very loose with us and kind of like um the mic is gonna be very fun I'm super excited about it.
SPEAKER_03Four minute sets um which someone told me is a weird time I think four is fine. Four is great definitely four is good. Five's five's too long for a mic. Yeah that's what I think too then it's just like it's like five is great if you have like maybe like a handful of comics but if you get a lot of people five can just start feeling like a lot. That's why we kind of decided to go with like four we're trying out four. We'll see how that goes but also this is just our opinion like there's other great mics that there's other great mics that are five minutes. I know a bunch of great five minute mics but like yeah just like in our opinion it can just kind of start dragging a little bit we think four might be a better sweet spot. No yeah shout out to AstraZone City and Teresa Lowe every Tuesday 7 p.m super excited about it that starts next week um come say what's up come uh you know we get a lot of people like DM like the the makeshift comedy page and it's just like listen I'm sure they're all really great comics but the thing is like there's so many people I just don't know like this is a really great opportunity for people to come out and like get to know Greg and I and like if you really like FaceTime. Yeah get more FaceTime if you want to be a part of makeshift comedy and kind of like what we're doing and kind of like get on a show like that's what you got to do. You know what I mean come out hit up a mic and come say what's up to us it's a really great opportunity to like get to know us and like you know come be a part about what we're doing you know yeah and if you never tried comedy try it yeah if you've never tried I would love to get I didn't think about this I would love to get people who haven't tried comedy out at our mic that would be so sick like that would be that would mean a lot to me because I mean like we like when we did joke gym like I had never done comedy and I got to come into a space and like go even like doing chatterbox for the first time after only doing like two mics and then like going to chatterbox for the first time and having that be like such a crazy experience like it to me it sounds cool to be like that experience for someone and then like again just to create like a really great space for people to like come and try shit you know all right I'll be there.
SPEAKER_14You can move it with my money are you serious?
SPEAKER_02Oh my god I got so excited come on I got so slow dude I've been trying to bark up this tree trunk oh to get on stage yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah no we were doing like this um this like uh exercise like me and a couple of comics just down here I was working on the audio stuff was like hey guys come check out we're um just this workout or some some of our stuff and Amber was right there she was like oh you should do this whatever and I was like okay well you come up and try something and she she did a really good job Amber's very well spoken she's very funny I just she is very funny I just love with Gil on Tuesday and whatever happens happens she's the reason why people listen to this podcast isn't me yeah it's not me it's it's Amber um and then I have I do have like our summer lineup that I can kind of give you guys really quick I'm just gonna run through that really quick and you guys can get a feel for the weird stuff that we're gonna be doing at Feathered Serpent.

But that's gonna be an all day event come check out some really great art by some really great artists and then yeah come laugh your ass off. And then August 7th is our last show and we're gonna end the summer with a mystery headliner. So that one's gonna be a big one. I'm really excited about that.
